HARDINSBURG, Ky. (Nov. 28, 2023) – The Kentucky State Police (KSP) responded to a two-vehicle collision involving a school bus in Breckinridge Co. Monday afternoon.
On Nov. 27, at approximately 3:36 P.M. CST, KSP Post 4 received a call from the Breckinridge Co. Sheriff’s Office requesting assistance investigating a two-vehicle collision near the 700 block of Rosetta Corners Road.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Gilbert Edlin, 29, of Elizabethtown, was operating a 1998 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck southbound. After cresting a hill, Edlin’s vehicle crossed into the path of a 2019 Freightliner school bus traveling northbound before striking the bus head-on.
Edlin was flown to the University of Louisville Hospital for life-threatening injuries. Thirty-one students were on the bus at the time of the collision. Four were taken to Baptist Health Hardin by ambulance for minor injuries and released a short time later. The remainder of the students were released to parents and guardians at the scene. The school bus was operated by Deborah Matthews, 61, of Custer, who reported no injuries.
The affected portion of Rosetta Corners Road was closed for several hours in order to allow troopers to reconstruct the collision. KSP Post 4 was assisted at the scene by the Breckinridge Co. Sheriff’s Office, Breckinridge Co. EMS, Breckinridge County Board of Education, and the Custer Volunteer Fire Department. The collision remains under investigation by reconstructionist Tpr. Tyler Lynch.
