Betty Marie Schaeffer, age 89, of Columbia Kentucky, previously of Clare, passed away following a short fight with cancer, on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023, at home in Columbia. Betty was born the daughter of Carl and Faye (Gould) Wurts on Oct. 19, 1933. Betty was united in marriage to Bill Schaeffer on September 6, 1952, in Clare. Betty, along with Bill, had been the owner/operator of Schaeffer's Restaurant in Clare. Betty was a member of the Clare Business and Professional Women’s Club and did freelance photography for the Clare Sentinel. She was an avid quilter and enjoyed watching “her” birds. Betty was an active member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Clare.
Betty is survived by her; son, Jim (Ann) Schaeffer of Kentucky; daughters, Susan "Sue" (Bruce) Casagranda of Crystal Falls, Vivian "Vicki" (Conrad) Holovach of Lake, and Cathy McKibben of Kentucky; eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Bill, and a grandson.
Visitation and Services will be held at the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2023 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Services will be on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023 at 11 A.M. with Pastor Paul C. Fetzer officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) or to the Lustgarten Foundation (www.lustgarten.org).
