Joe Edward Conover, 87, of Russell Springs, passed away Monday, October 9, 2023, in Columbia. He was born on August 20, 1936 in Columbia to the late Rufus and Lillie Flatt Conover.
Mr. Conover was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on his farm. He was a well-known businessman in Adair County and drove a Borders Milk truck for over 20 years before retiring. He owned Hillcrest Stables, where he and his family trained and enjoyed showing American Saddlebred horses. He owned and operated Hethron and Landtron Energy Corporation, where he drilled oil wells throughout Kentucky and Tennessee.
Survivors include a daughter Rhonda Conover of Columbia; four grandchildren Heather Loy (Jon) of Russell Springs, KY, Seth Grider (Sheena) of Russell Springs, KY, Chad Grider (Denielle Howell) of Bardstown, and Wayne Conover (Rayla) of Bluffton, South Carolina; a daughter-in-law Denise McCloud Conover of Bluffton, SC; a brother Gene Conover of Columbia, KY; three great grandchildren Kassidi Taylor, Hunter Taylor, and Destiny Popplewell; two great great grandchildren and several other friends and relatives.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Bruce Edward Conover and a brother Clyde Conover.
Funeral services will be 3:00pm Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the Freedom Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday after 10:00am at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.
Bro. Jon Loy will be officiating, and pallbearers will be Seth Grider, Chad Grider, John Conover, Bryson Loy, Hunter Taylor, and Raysean Hughes.
