Warren Harding ‘Buck’ Perkins, 102, of Columbia, passed away Monday, August 7, 2023 at University of Kentucky Medical Center Hospice Care. He was born in Knifley on May 2, 1921 to the late Harry and Martha Gumm Perkins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Dulworth Perkins.
He was of the Christian faith and attended Mt. Carmel Church. He was a former part owner and manager of Holmes Bend Marina and a very active member of the community serving on various committees and organizations. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include two children, Tim Perkins (Carla) of Columbia and Lana Perkins Mata of Jamestown, Tenn.; two grandsons, Byron Irvin of Russell Springs and Jordan Perkins of Columbia; two great-grandsons, Byron and Jacob; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Holt and her husband Marvin and Pat Nance.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home with burial in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Military honors were provided by VFW Post 6097.
